Our checklist is designed for parents of K-5 students who want to move beyond general observations and understand exactly how to support their child's development. Identifying these milestones means looking past the grade level and noticing the specific habits that drive progress.
Inside the checklist, you will find benchmarks such as:
Phonemic Awareness: Can they identify and manipulate individual sounds in a word by ear?
Phonics: Are they accurately decoding the entire word, or are they guessing based on the first letter?
Fluency: Does their reading sound like natural conversation, or is it hesitant and robotic?
Vocabulary: Are they curious about new words and their meanings, or do they tend to skip over them?
Comprehension: Can they explain a character's motivations, or are they only able to retell the basic plot?

Often, a child is proficient in phonics but struggles with the flow of fluency. Or perhaps they have a vast vocabulary but find the auditory work of phonemic awareness difficult.
